Like Clark Kent's alter ego, Superman, one Indian man goes by "Vishwash" in the online world. Vishwash, which means "faith" in Hindi, serves as a spiritual mentor to hundreds of online seekers in India.
During the day, he tinkers on trucks and airplanes as a mechanic in the Indian air force. But his spiritual side career is where his true passions lie.
"Vishwash" serves as a leader for five other e-mentors around India, digitally guiding them through the ins and outs of Internet ministry. "I find that people are more open in an e-mail because they feel that somebody is not going to gossip about it," says "Vishwash." "When they get the answers, they become more open to further Internet ministry."
His team tackles common questions such as "Who is Jesus?", "How do I grow?" and "Is this relationship God's will?" "Vishwash" (left, with his wife) can empathize with each of these questions because he once asked them himself. In March 2006, a relationship with a Christian girl led him to ask questions about Christianity and faith in Jesus.
Thirsting for answers, "Vishwash" went to the "fount" of knowledgeGoogle. His search led him to a Campus Crusade for Christ website. There he met Cathy Douglass, a Campus Crusade staff member and director of the Naya Jeevan Project, who would become his online spiritual mentor.
A year after beginning a relationship with Jesus, "Vishwash" was challenged to mentor others where it seemed most natural to him: online. Cathy says, "He has become one of our best e-mentors."
To become an e-mentor, go to www.ccci.org and search "e-mentor."
